Edwin H. Stanley
Edwin H. Stanley, in his 88th year, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 2nd, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife and family at the Southampton Care Centre. Ed was born July 5th, 1929 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, to Dorothy and Alfred Stanley. He is the oldest of ten children. He is survived by Rita, his wife of 62 years, and his seven children, Liz, Helen (George), Robert (Suzanne), Suzanne (Mike), Alison (Dave), Joanne (Dave), and Cheryl (Steve). Grandfather of 15, Jeff, Kim, Alicia, Sarah, Jamie, Jesse, Brent, Coby, Chris, Greg, Kristyn, Ryan, Brianne, Brendan, and Gabrielle, and five great grandchildren, Rylah, Madi, Jack, Alex, and Ava. Ed will be remembered as a generous and fun-loving man who adored his wife and family. But as a child, he was notorious for his mischievous ways: capturing alligators, riding water buffalo, and targeting those he loved with his sling-shot. Ed was an entrepreneur in Trinidad, opening his own movie theatre and taxi company. He also worked for Texaco Oil Refinery and Grace Chemicals. In 1971, he moved his wife and seven children to Canada and worked as a supervisor at Ontario Hydro. Ed enjoyed his retirement, playing tennis, racquetball, travelling, and attending the horse races at Woodbine. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Marriott, Dr. Don McCulloch and the staff at the Southampton Care Centre for their exceptional care and kindness. A private family celebration of life will be held in his honour. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate condolences and donations be sent to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services at www.greybrucecremation.com or 519-371-8507. Donations will be forwarded to the Southampton Care Centre Residents’ Council or the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
