William “Bill” Armstrong
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our father Bill, after a hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease on September 30, 2016, in his 85th year, surrounded by his family. Bill is survived by his daughters, Karen (Don) of Owen Sound and Diane of Toronto; sons, Mike of Penetanguishene and Scott (Andrea) of London; and beloved grandchildren, Andrea, Colin, Jill, Nick, Lisa, Becky, Jordan, Aidan, Olivia and Ashton. Son of the late Reita (Keller) and Bruce Armstrong, he is pre-deceased by his wife and soul mate of 64 years Vera, nee Griffin, (Feb. 2016), daughter Janice (2013) and son Bob (1999). Bill will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by his cousins and life long friends Beth (Cliff) Newman, John (Marlene) Purdy, and Jim Armstrong; sister-in-law Aileen (Dave) Murray; and brothers-in-law John (Lori) Griffin, Wayne (Nancy) Griffin, Paul (Alice) Griffin and Murray (Clem) Griffin. Bill will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and good neighbour and guardian angel Jane Horne. Having grown up an only child, Bill wanted a large family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest source of pride. Bill loved the outdoors, gardening, woodworking, carpentry, refurbishing antiques, hockey, curling, lawn-bowling and was active in Kinsmen K-40. Following a 29 year career with the Bank of Montreal, Bill worked for the former Windsor Dominion Civil Servants Credit Union retiring in 1996. Bill will always be remembered as a true gentleman and someone who never complained, not even when Parkinson’s took hold. He dealt with this as with all challenges in his life, with grit and determination. He epitomized the motto of the clan Armstrong, “Invictus Maneo”. The family extends special thanks to Southgate Residence, Kingsville, the caring staff at John Joseph Place, Owen Sound, the wonderful, compassionate medical staff at Grey Bruce Health Services, Lori Scherzer from Nurse Next Door, Owen Sound, Amy’s Helping Hands, Windsor, and the kindness of neighbours and friends. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the lounge at The Curling Club of Kingsville. Interment at Fenelon Falls Cemetery will be Spring 2017. Arrangements are entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Service Inc. 519-371-8507. Online condolences can be made at www.greybrucecremation.com.
