Ronald Speight
Ron passed away peacefully on July 20, 2018 in the Owen Sound Hospital, with family by his side, at the age of 79. He leaves his daughter Karen Baily (Mark), son Glen and grandchildren Griffen and Anderson, brother Paul (Carol) and his long-term loving partner Ute Leng and her children and grandchildren. Ron was born and raised in Toronto and was an avid Leafs fan his entire life. Ron was an active outdoorsman and sportsman, enjoying golf in his latter years and hockey in his younger ones, both playing and coaching. He was very proud that his son and grandsons took up the sport. When he and Ute moved to the golf course community of Lora Bay near Thornbury, golf became an almost full-time passion. His other passion was hugging everyone, both ladies and men. He became known for his wonderful smile and hugs all around. His very successful career spanned many years of human resources and labour relations work in various industries. He negotiated contracts with the best of them, eventually retiring from Owens Corning about 12 years ago. Ron will be missed by many for his hugs, his smile, his handshakes and his outgoing personality. He had a vibrant personality and was a true gentleman. We will all miss him so much. Rest in peace, dear Ron/Dad/Poppa. A Celebration of Life will take place at Lora Bay at a later date. Memorial donations to the Ontario Lung Association would be appreciated.
