Gerald Cooper
October 12, 1934 – October 13, 2020
It is with sadness to share the passing of Gerald Wayne Cooper of Underwood, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the Kincardine Hospital, in his 87th year, with his family by his side after a sudden but hard fought illness. Husband of the late Jean Overholt-Cooper. Father of Kathy and husband Al McCarrel of Port Elgin, Kim and husband Murray McCarrel of Southampton, and Jamie Overholt and his wife Liz of Goderich. Grandpa to Jesse Cooper (Jolene), Kara Trelford (Shaun), Lisa Ransome (Derek), Meagan Hooey (Chris), and Michelle McCarrel (Kris). Great-grandpa to ten great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Eileen Plyley (Dennis) of London and Ross Cooper (Shirley) of Woodstock. Predeceased by his parents Hubert and Bernice Cooper of Exeter, and siblings Frank Cooper and Glenn Cooper. Gerald was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers since 1967, working as a heavy duty equipment mechanic for Lumus Construction and later various construction jobs in remote areas of Northern Ontario. He was a man of integrity and great mechanical skill, well respected in the community. He loved his John Deere tractors, NASCAR racing, moose hunting, ATV riding to the sugar bush, snowmobiles, tractor pulls, and being with friends and his family who he was very proud of. “Gerry” was always helping others. He went peacefully although with much living yet to do. A good man who will be missed so much, always remembered, and forever loved.
A celebration of his life will be held post COVID. Private interment will take place at Port Bruce Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Huron Shores Hospice as expressions of sympathy. Online condolences may be made at www.greybrucecremation.com. Special thanks to Skye and Ollie of the nursing staff at the Kincardine Hospital.
