John Woodward

With great sadness, the family of John Woodward announces his passing, with loved ones by his side, on May 20, 2021 in Owen Sound, Ontario. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Uncle John moved with his family to Owen Sound when he was twelve. After a stint in the Navy, he lived and worked in the area before enjoying retirement in Lion’s Head.  Uncle John was predeceased by his parents, Henry Thomas Woodward and Josephine Garland and two older sisters, Shirley (Trick) Ness and Barbara (George) Braun.  Uncle John had a kind heart and a wonderful sense of humour. He could deliver a punch line with such a straight face that we never knew he was joking until his shoulders shook with laughter.  He craved action and enjoyed travelling. He was an avid boater, fisherman and canoeist who loved the clear, cold waters of Georgian Bay. He exercised to keep fit and kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles, card games and current events. He loved to play bridge whenever he could find worthy opponents. He played at a championship level. Latterly he taught a friend cribbage and they played daily. He enjoyed his time at the Legions in Lion’s Head and in Owen Sound.  Uncle John was a beloved uncle to Allison (and family), Laurie (John) and family, Jay, Judy, Steve (Gina) and family. Forever missed, never forgotten. Our sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at OSRH for their compassionate care and treatment during Uncle John’s final days. Respecting his wishes, there will be no service. Memorial donations to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services 519-371-8507.

Condolences for John Woodward
