Allan Bell
Allan Mather Bell, formerly of West Grey, passed away peacefully at Rockwood Terrace in Durham on July 12, 2021. Born on Christmas Day 1935, the only son of the late George Allan Bell and Mary Helen Mather. Survived by his wife of over 62 years, Margaret (Peggy) Lauder, his sons John (LeeAnne) and Douglas (Janis), his daughter MarySusan (Larry Snow), his grandchildren Adam (Sheena), Dana (Mitch), Elissa, Lauren (Lance), Taylor, Curtis and Cory and his great grandchildren John David, George and Henry Keiffer and Brielle and Tyson Stafford. Also survived by his sisters Jessie (the late Lloyd Clark) and Edith (Dr. Peter Matthews). Predeceased by his sister Wilma Bell. Born and raised in Glenelg Township, Allan’s involvement with the Durham Junior Farmers and 4H Clubs helped him develop a keen eye for superior livestock and provided him the opportunity to travel to judging competitions as a representative of Grey County. He went on to become a herdsman, cattle fitter and showman throughout Canada and beyond. He later became an Official Judge for Holstein Canada. Allan started Belgrove Holsteins in 1966 earning two Master Breeder Awards. He was a 4H Leader for over 30 years, past president of the Grey County Milk Committee, Holstein Club, United Breeders Inc., and Ontario and Canadian Association of Animal Breeders. He was a member of the Semex Sire Selection Committee. As a member of Knox United Church, Allan served on many committees and sang in the choir. He was a member and Past Master of the Durham Masonic Lodge No. 306 for 52 years. He volunteered his time in his community, loved family reunions, curling, hunting, fishing, and singing with the Durham Silver Threads. Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will take place at Knox United Church, Durham on July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service will follow at Durham Cemetery at 12:00 p.m., where everyone is welcome to attend. Physical distancing protocols will be in place at the cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Durham Hospital Foundation, Knox United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of choice. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Rockwood Terrace for their care and compassion.
