It is with profound sadness that the family of Lois Inez Furness (nee West) announces her passing on October 25th, 2021 in her 92nd year at the Owen Sound Hospital. Predeceased by her loving husband, George Furness, of 66 years. Cherished mother of Linda and her husband Tim Price of Rockwood, Carol and her partner Ian McCullough of Kitchener, George and his wife Elizabeth of Grimsby, Susan and her husband Dave Gray of Lake Eugenia, Dave and his wife Lynne of Lake Eugenia, Catherine and her husband Vik Nevrela of Bramalea and Sharon and her husband Jeff Sargent of Georgetown. She will be lovingly missed by her 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Mom was born on April 26th, 1930 in Toronto to Inez and Percy West. She graduated from Northern Secondary School and worked as a commercial artist. She married George Furness on October 8th, 1949 and soon started her family of 5 daughters and two sons. In her late thirties she went back to school and graduated as an RNA and practiced at the Mississauga Hospital. Mom’s knitting creations were enjoyed by many members of the family. She also dabbled in painting and loved her crossword puzzles and sudoko. It amazed us how she kept up with technology and enjoyed using her iPad for research and games such as Words with Friends, where she was a skilled and competitive player.
Our beloved mother, formerly of Port Elgin, Sauble Beach and Bramalea was humble, strong and courageous in her quiet way, non judgmental, kind and generous, fiercely independent, caring and a beautiful woman inside and out. She taught us by example to live with dignity and integrity, humility and honesty. Before the surgery she danced on her feet, in recovery she danced in her seat and near the end she danced with her hands. She lived her life with grace, humour and a strong sense of family.
Our mom will be cremated by the Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services. A Celebration to honour her life will be held in the spring of 2022.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
