Jean Margaret Lundy (nee Robertson) peacefully left this life in her 99th year on November 8, 2021 at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre, Owen Sound. Dear wife of the late Mitchell Lundy (2006) for 55 years. Loved mother of Margaret of London, Robert (Gladys) of Kelowna BC, William (Marie) of Whitby, Charles of Edmonton, and Dorie Fritz (Peter) of Francis Lake. Missed by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also survived by one cousin, Irene Barton, of Santa Rosa CA. Predeceased by her parents Blanche and David Robertson. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

An only child, Jean was born in California. The family moved to Edmonton in 1928 when she was five, then to Ontario eight years later so her father could take over his parents’ farm in what was then St. Vincent Township, and finally to a Springmount area farm in 1942.

After high school, Jean went to Normal school in London and taught for seven years in several rural one-room schools, and also attended Emmanuel Bible College in Kitchener for one year before she married. Afterwards she devoted herself to her family and to teaching Sunday School.

Jean married Mitchell Lundy in 1951, working with him for almost 50 years on a farm in then-called Sullivan Township where they raised their family. In 2001 they moved to Owen Sound where she cared for Mitchell for four years, then visited him almost daily in the nursing home until his death. In 2009 Jean returned to Edmonton after 72 years for the wedding of her granddaughter, Esther Lundy, visited her old neighbourhood and even walked the hallways of the school she had attended so many years before.

Jean liked nature and plants, raising in her huge garden many of the vegetables the family ate. She missed it after she moved to Owen Sound, but enjoyed seeing other people’s flowers and tried to identify the great variety of plants she saw during her daily walks around her neighbourhood.

Jean’s passion in life was the church and in particular, Christian missions. She was most pleased when her son Robert became a missionary in Brazil with his wife Gladys, and for many years supported their work there. She also corresponded with and supported several missionaries elsewhere. A long-time adherent of South End Baptist Church in Owen Sound, she was part of the prayer chain and participated in prayer meetings and the seniors’ group there. She also supported the Ark Aid Mission for street people in Owen Sound.

The family wishes to express their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at the Mapleview Long-Term Care Residence in Owen Sound for their care during the 21 months Jean lived there, a job made more difficult because of Covid-19 protocols. We are also grateful for the unstinting efforts of the doctors and nurses in the ICU/CCU and sixth floor of the Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound during Jean’s final days. Thank you all for your kindness.

Condolences for Jean Lundy
