June McBride
June 26, 1928 – June 25, 2022
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of June McBride of Hamilton, Ontario, one day shy of her 94th birthday, surrounded by family at Central Place Retirement Home in Owen Sound. June was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Ken, and wonderful son, Bill. June was a caring mother to daughter Linda Kieswetter and cherished by her grandchildren Matthew Kempf (Ana), Kirby Kieswetter (Cory), Tyler Kieswetter and Ryan Ord, as well as three great grandchildren, Trevor, Matteo and Eva Kempf. Predeceased by parents Theodore Bennett and Beatrice Philpot Bennett, brothers Fred (Sylvia), John, sisters Elsie (Jack), Hazel and Jean. June is survived by brothers, Harold (Jean) and Roy (Lynn), and sister Marion (Don).
June was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Theodore and Beatrice. At a young age June met the love of her life “Kenny”. Soon after Ken returned from the Canadian Air Force, they wed on June 11,1949 in Hamilton, Ontario where they built their home together and raised their family for many years. In grade school, June met her lifelong, best friend Lillian (Poff). Together with their husbands, they spent their winters in Florida playing Bingo and cards, and summered at their cottage in Dunchurch, Ontario. June was always willing to take on any worthy opponent in badminton! In their later years, they settled in Vineland, Ontario. Aside from being an avid card player, June loved to roller and ice skate (in her younger years), knit, crochet, read, watch The Blue Jays and The Leafs, and never missed an episode of The Young and the Restless. To say June had “the gift of the gab” would be an understatement, often spending hours on the phone catching up with friends and family. She loved to socialize, was quick witted and was a shopper extraordinaire.
We feel blessed to have had 93 years with June. She was a beacon of joy and a pillar of strength to all who knew her. Her door was always open to those in need (once she unlocked her 5 locks!) and will be remembered for her kindness and laughter.
For those that wish to attend, the interment will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19th at Vineland Cemetery. A celebration of life for family and invited friends will follow at Inn on the Twenty (The Valley Room) from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in Jordan, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services, www.greybrucecremation.com.
