Donald Sidney Smith

April 27, 1928 – September 17, 2022

Don Smith of Portlaw passed away peacefully at home at the age of 94.  Loving husband and dance partner of 60 years to Lucille.  Lovingly remembered by children Rick (Colleen) Moreland, Ron (Arlene) Moreland, Reg (Wendy) Moreland, Donald (Ann) Smith, Karen (Jamie Woods) Smith, and Diane (Jim) Sweeney.  Proud “Grandpa Don” of 15 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.  Also survived by brother-in-law Jack (Marg) Irwin, and sister-in-law Hilda Smith.  Predeceased by parents Frank and Annie Smith, parents-in-law Redge and Ada Irwin, brother Les Smith, and brothers-in-law Kenny and Larry Irwin.  Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brooke Edwards, Glenna, Trevor, Care Partners nurses and the entire Palliative Care Team that allowed Don to “do it his way” and stay in the comfort of his own home.  Don will be especially missed for his “words of wisdom” with his grandchildren, his “superior A-Team card playing,” his love of dancing with his best friend, his quick wit, and his great sense of humour.  A private family memorial will be held at a later date.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to Chapman House (www.greybrucehospice.com) or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
