It’s with gratitude for a full life lived the Vaughan-Hopkins family announce the death of their mother. Marjory Matilda Knowles Hopkins Vaughan. Tillie was born in Turkeytown, NB December 31, 1928, the 4th child of Raymond and Emily Knowles (nee Jagoe). At 18 Tillie moved to Sarnia to further her education by becoming a hairdresser. She married John Hopkins of Tobermory and had 3 children Daphne (Brent Richardson), Jim (Diane Smith) and Michael. During the summer Tillie opened a hair salon in her mother-in-law’s house till moving permanently to Tobermory in 1960 and opening her own salon. Tillie dressed hair and raised kids during the week and on weekends went to many coast guard lighthouse stations in Georgian Bay where Jack was stationed and they welcomed lots of kids, family and friends. Many winters were spent in Victoria or Florida. Mom loved the heat. Eventually they moved to Lion’s Head. They enjoyed many hours playing cards and potlucks at the Friendship Club. After Jack’s death she moved to a retirement home in Owen Sound. After breaking her ankle and requiring more care she moved to Lee Manor. All the staff just loved her and all her idiosyncrasies, such as drinks in a stem glass with lots of ice.
