Larry Kavelman
Larry Howard Kavelman, in his 76th year, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023 at his home in Georgian Bluffs, Ontario surrounded by his loving family after fighting a short courageous battle with cancer.
Larry was born in Kitchener, Ontario, on September 13th, 1947. Son of Earl Kavelman and Doris (Hammond), both of Kitchener. He grew up with his immediate family of four brothers, Terry (Brenda Frey), David, John (late Ellie Hackett), Peter (predeceased), and adopted brother Robert (Gail Walters). Coming from a close-knit extended family, Larry also loved spending time with his uncles, aunts, and many cousins, especially on the farm.
As a teen, Larry spent many hours with his friends, attending camps with his scout troops and cruising the drag! Being an adventurous soul, he struck out with his long-time friend Jim Hiuser, braved the train to Vancouver, British Columbia, and then toured the surrounding area. But after running out of expendable cash to return to Kitchener, these two young men thumbed their way home to Ontario.
Larry attended Humber College and received his Tool and Die Diploma. He then pursued a career in the trade, working many years for Boehmers and other heating and air conditioning companies during his work years.
Another passion he had was his weekend trips to Sauble Beach to hang out with his brothers and buddies. Larry and his friends jointly built a cottage here, where he eventually met his wife Donna (Urbshott), of 50+ years.
Larry was a devoted, gentle, loving, caring partner, husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law to Donna and their children Sarah (Kevin Heathers) and Andrew (Melanie Blanchard). Larry will be missed dearly by his four grandsons, Brennan (Kate Patton), Ashtyn (Kaitlyn Higgins), Zachary, and Owen. Papa always loved spending time with his grandsons, especially outdoors.
We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the over-and-above care given to Larry by Dr. David Diodati, the VON team, the palliative team, and all other doctors who cared for him on this journey.
Private family arrangements have been entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services. In keeping with Larry’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
