Frances (Fran) Bennett
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frances (Fran) Bennett on Monday, July 31, 2023. Fran lived a full life up to the age of 93. She was married to her husband Bun for 65 years until his passing in 2019, and has longed for his presence since that time. She was a loving mother to her 3 girls, Laura Durnin (Pat), Shelley Berner (Mark) and Heather Stark (Jason). Fran was a lively ‘Nana’ to her grandchildren Jason Berner (Holly), Melisa Berner (Jesse), Bridget Huff (Bryan), Jenna LaRocque (Matt), Haily Dolan (Clay), Mitchell Durnin (Riel Warrilow) and Cassandra Stark (Devan) and great grandchildren, Keltan, Reegan, Ava, Marley, Emerson, Isobel, Isla, Rowan, Warren, Vaida, Banks, Wolf and Angus. Fran was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and she never seemed to travel anywhere or meet anyone without finding a connection to her hometown. She often shared stories of her parents and sister; a family that valued generosity, connection, and living life to make it count – all things she passed along to her children and grandkids. Fran and Bun shared a passion for travel, and enjoyed exploring the beauty of Canada together. She also enjoyed history and reading, she curled like it was her job (and rarely lost a game,) and made friendships wherever she went. She had a special place in her heart for children and animals, and was always ready with a little bag of goodies, treats, or a song and a jig for the little ones. Mom/Nana had a welcoming and positive spirit and a care for others that allowed everyone she met to feel loved and part of her family immediately. She always stayed connected, and was an irreplaceable part of our family fabric. Her presence and spirit will be missed. We would like to express our gratitude to the nurses and support staff at Kelso Villa for the wonderful care, and going the extra mile to always make mom feel comfortable and at home. There will be a small celebration of life for family and close friends at Thanksgiving. If friends so desire, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
