David Roy Ferris
November 26, 1952 – September 22, 2023
In his 71st year, and following celebrations of his life with special visits from his family, extended family, chosen family, friends and neighbours, David Roy Ferris passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023 with his wife, children and sister by his side.
Dave was a loving husband of 41 years to Kelly (nee Sullivan) and a cherished father to Katie (John) Huntley and Mac (Diana) Ferris. He will always be “Bumpa Dave” to his adored grandchildren, Alice and Robbie. Dave was raised in Windsor and was predeceased by his parents June and Roy Ferris. Dave was particularly proud of his father’s role in WWII First Special Service Force. He leaves behind his sister, Susan (Larry) Friest, as well as extended family members and in-laws whom he loved.
Dave lived a wonderful life, embracing every situation with love, kindness, strength and positivity. He and Kelly moved north to Owen Sound over 40 years ago where they started a family together. In 2019 the couple relocated to Saugeen Shores to be closer to their grandchildren.
He was generous and caring. He was a music enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with loved ones, exploring the outdoors and was always up to shenanigans. Dave was well loved and will be remembered by many. Those who were lucky enough to know Dave will remember how he made them feel; he always had their backs and was a sincere friend whose home was always open for those he cared about.
The family would like to thank those who have supported Dave since his first brain hemorrhage in 2017 from cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Dave courageously fought to recover along with the help of an army of caregivers, family and friends, in particular Dr. Harpur, staff and volunteers at Tobermory Hyperbaric Chamber. The hyperbaric treatment was monumental in Dave’s journey and he was pleased to learn that others are now being referred following his improvements. The family would also like to thank Dr. Robertson and Dr. Dafe of Owen Sound.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tobermory Hyperbaric Facility would be greatly appreciated. These donations will offset the costs for others with CAA. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
