We are heartbroken to announce the death of Maldwyn (Mal) Griffith Williams on August 1st, 2023. Alzheimer’s disease took his brilliant mind from us a number of years ago. We have missed and mourned him for a long time. He was the beloved son of Professor Ronald James Williams PhD, U of T, Middle Eastern Studies, and Vivien Tremaine Williams, Poet, both of Toronto. Loved by his wife Marianne Margret (Bergen) Williams and his two children, David Ronald Williams and Bronwen Meredith Vivien (nee Williams) Gill and his son-in-law, Spencer Gill. He will be missed by his sister Gwethalynn (Lynn) French and family, of Littlehampton, West Sussex, UK.  He will also be missed by his sister-in-law Brenda Bergen and his two nieces, Kristin Bergen and Melissa (Bergen) Thompson.  His grandchildren, Bryn and Rhys, remember Mal as the grandpa who flew kites on the beach with them, helped make wooden racing cars in the ‘magic wood’, and who could not wait until they were old enough to go hiking and camping with Grandpa. He also gave design and sudoku lessons in the midst of these activities!  Mal was a Queen’s Scout and a Scout leader at St. James Bond United Church, Toronto.  We are thankful for all the friends and colleagues who spent time visiting with Mal as his mind drifted away, and especially for the services of the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, Home and Community Services, and the Bruce Trail Conservancy, along with his friends of the Rotary Club of Wiarton. He belonged to, and inspired, Mal’s Gals, a group of enthusiastic gardeners who shared vegetable gardening and a dinner from the garden produce each week from planting to harvest for many years. Mal smiled all the time in the garden. His last years were happier because of all these constant friends. His body has been cremated and will be laid to rest. There will be a Celebration of his Life at Kemble-Sarawak United Church in Kemble on Saturday October 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.  Rather than send flowers, donations may be made in his honour to Home and Community Services, Owen Sound, the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, the Rotary Club of Wiarton or the Bruce Trail Conservancy.  Online condolences may be made at www.greybrucecremation.com.  Mal will be missed so much by all of us.

Condolences for Maldwyn (Mal) Williams
