Derek Bell
John Derek Bell passed away peacefully at Rockwood Terrace in Durham on Sunday, October 8, 2023, in his 54th year. Cherished son of the late John and Catherine (née Elvidge) Bell. Dear brother of Ruth McPhail of Durham and Heather and her husband Bjorn Andersen of Brick, New Jersey. Also survived by his nieces Laura (Travis) Braeker, Julie McPhail and Jeane and Sonja Andersen, great nieces Sophie and Hannah, his aunt Ruth Falconer, his uncle Ronald Bell and many cousins. Predeceased by his grandparents Thomas and Florence Bell and Irving and Elvin Elvidge and his brother-in-law Stuart McPhail.
Derek enjoyed the simpler things in life. He loved to swim, take rides in the car, listen to country music, watch Big Bang Theory and wrestling, going shopping, and he was forever asking “what’s for lunch, what’s for dinner?” He had a sense of humour but was known to be stubborn and determined especially when he wanted things his way!! Derek liked his independence and living on his own, but he always loved to spend time with his family, especially his parents who he missed dearly.
A private service will be held. Interment in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Durham. Special thanks and appreciation to Community Living, Walkerton for their excellent care and support of Derek for many years. Thanks also to the staff of Rockwood Terrace for their compassion and kindness over the last several months. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Living Walkerton and District (clwalkerton.org) in memory of Derek would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
