Joan Whale
Joan Whale of Hanover passed away peacefully at the Hanover Hospital on December 3, 2023, in her 91st year. Joan was born on July 9, 1933 to Tom and Edna Bennett in Crawley, England. Beloved wife of the late Harry Whale. Joan is survived by her sons Matthew Whale of Hanover and Jason (Alyona) Whale of Fort St. John, BC, her grandchildren Varvara, Ivanka and Xander and extended family in Ontario and England. Predeceased by her sisters Sheila Stewart and Patricia Dench. In 1953, Joan met Harry Whale in Portsmouth, England. They emigrated to Canada in 1956. Joan was a kind and generous person who was loved by many friends and basically anyone who knew her. She volunteered at the Hanover Hospital for 20 years and spent many years with the Grey Bruce Singers singing with the choir and keeping the books. She also spent years with the Hanover Little Theatre acting in plays and doing makeup for the performers. She was also an active member of the Red Hats and always had fun during their outings. In 1999, Joan and Harry retired and spent their time skiing, sailing and travelling the world. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at a later time.
