Robert Lamont
Robert Howard Lamont passed away peacefully at SBGHC in Chesley on November 18th, 2024 in his 82nd year. Robert was born and raised in Hanover, he was the eldest son of Howard and Ruth (Vickers) Lamont.
Robert was hired as Hanover’s first letter carrier for Canada Post, he later transferred and completed his career in Toronto. In his retirement he returned to Hanover where he enjoyed reconnecting with many childhood friends, exploring old haunts and researching his family roots.
The everyday pleasures of life brought Robert great joy. He loved a good book, a challenging bike ride, photography and gardening. He never passed up a friendly game of euchre. His love of travel took him to many different countries of the world. His one passion was Saturday morning garage sales, he could not pass one by.
Survived by brothers Stuart (Sus), Evan (Natalie) and Bryan and sisters Janet Frank, Joy Woodhouse and Heather Cosman (Jim). Uncle Bob will be missed by many nieces, nephews and greats. Remembered by many dear friends.
Also survived by his adopted Turkish family, Ramazan and Melahat Tas as well as their children, Yusuf, Nesibe and Humeyra.
Predeceased by his parents, brothers Donald (in infancy) and John (Wanda), sisters Margaret Sternall, Barbara Doersam and Rona Rempel (Harry) and brothers-in-law Glen Sternall, Steve Doersam, Toni Frank and Robert Woodhouse.
To honour Robert’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 1st, 2024 at the Hanover Legion from 1 – 4 p.m. Donations to the Hanover Food Bank will be received at the Legion as an expression of sympathy.
A private family interment will take place at the Columbarium in Hanover Cemetery at a later date.
