We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Ann Harvey (nee Hains) at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Kincardine on January 17, 2025, at the age of 79.
Nancy was the beloved wife of Bob Harvey for 59 years. She will be fondly remembered by her family Lisa Harvey, Monique and John Cairney and her grandchildren Logan and Morgan Cairney. Nancy will also be missed by family members Faye and Tom Parker, Glenda and Bob Rutherford, Cindy and Rod Trainor, Jaci and Lorne McNeil, Corinne and Marty Kusluski, and Melanie and Scott Thompson. Other relatives and friends will also be missing Nancy. She was predeceased by parents Phyllis and Charlie Wilcox and brother/sister-in-law Frank and Tess Hains.
Nancy had a love for nature and animals. She planted gardens and trees around our property. The house always had a dog or two as well as a cat or two. The fish pond was a favourite pastime of hers.
Nancy was fortunate to have many friends over the years in Kincardine. Rhodora was a long time friend who was always there to support Nancy. Jackie and Nancy had lunch each month and discussed and shared their interest in books. Pat was a long term friend who went flower searching with Nancy and always had a smile for her. Hilda and Nancy went on road trips for lunch every few months and shared lots of stories.
Nancy was a busy Mom with 2 young children and a desire for more education. She completed her high school and began university studies in Kapuskasing. Once our family moved to Kincardine she began to work towards her English degree and began to use her skills in the community. She assisted new Canadians with their English, many came from Viet Nam. After several years, she completed her Teacher’s diploma and began to teach English at Kincardine District Secondary School. Nancy thoroughly enjoyed teaching her students and ended as head of the English department.
Later in Nancy’s career, she enjoyed travelling and we were able to visit many parts of the United Kingdom and Europe. She also spent time in Mexico, Central America and Florida.
Nancy’s last days were spent at the hospital in Kincardine. We would like to thank the nurses and doctors for their excellent care during her final days.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at the Kincardine Legion on Saturday, March 1st from 1 – 4 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kincardine Hospital Foundation, MSF Canada/Doctors Without Borders or a charity of your choice.
