Ruth Rayworth
It is with sadness that Ruth Betty Rayworth, of Owen Sound, passed away quietly at Brightshores Hospital, Owen Sound, on December 21, 2024, at age 74. Her sister, Eleanor was in attendance. Ruth was recently diagnosed with late stages of Hodgkin’s.
Ruth leaves behind her sister, Eleanor Roppel of Tiverton and one nephew, Gord Roppel of Underwood. She will also be missed by her roommate, Mike Wynn. She has left her much loved pets, Gizmo and Dusty in Mikes’s tender care. She was predeceased by her mother, Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth in 1984 and father Oertel (Red) Allen in 1988.
Ruth was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and moved back to her mother’s hometown, Owen Sound about age 3. From there she attended public school in Durham, high school in Hanover and then on to Conestoga College. After leaving Conestoga, she worked at various locations in Ontario and Quebec and finally retired from Transcomm International in Owen Sound.
During her lifetime, Ruth was very sports minded and played hockey and baseball on various teams in Ontario and Quebec. Her other love, fishing, remained a lifelong passion and you would often see her at the dock in Owen Sound with her friend, Brad Stevens, fishing pole in hand.
In honour of Ruth’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services. A graveside service will be held at the Hanover Cemetery on July 9th at 11:00 am.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Brightshores Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
