The family of William Ricky “Rick” Neelands would like to announce the unfortunate passing of their much loved brother. Rick was born on July 9, 1959 in Kitchener, Ontario and died on July 25, 2025 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He was the first born son to Bill and Lola (nee Young) Neelands, both deceased. He is survived by his sister Kim (Rob) Lovett, sister Darlene Neelands Ormsby, sister Heather (Kevin) Walters, and brother Todd.  Rick was very proud of his nieces and nephews: Nathan, Meagan, Kyle (Megan), Adam, Ryan, Colin (Nichole), Aaron and Andrew (Ren), Ashley (Tyler) and Nicole (Stephen) as well as his seven great nieces and nephews: Skyler, Bryer, Winston, Andrew “Drew”, Aubrey, Jayvier, and Waylen. Also survived by sister-in-law LeeAnn Mckitrick Neelands. Rick found great joy in attending their weddings and family gatherings. Rick found solitude in books, being a voracious reader. It was always a pleasure to engage in meaningful, intellectual conversations with him: a philosopher of sorts who was always willing to share his intriguing perspective of any given topic or situation. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, back road touring in the Massie and Walter’s Falls communities, listening to music and gathering with friends. A work place accident while in his early 40’s, greatly affected Ricks quality of life impeding activities that he previously enjoyed. Following a private family gathering, a Celebration of Life is in the planning for future time in September. Details will be shared. If so desired, contributions can be made in Rick’s memory to the Grey Highlands Public Library – Markdale or McLean’s Cemetery in Bognor. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services, greybrucecremation.com.

Condolences for Rick Neelands
