Frederick Cummings

1931 – 2025

Frederick William Cummings (Fred), 94, died peacefully on Monday October 27, 2025 at Southbridge Long-term Care Home, Owen Sound, Ontario.

Fred was born on May 26, 1931 to Frederick and Elizabeth (nee Lyall) Cummings in Sunderland, UK.

He served in the Royal Air Force prior to marrying the love of his life, Jean (nee Pallas) and emigrating to Canada in 1957 with their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Jacqueline. Their son, Frederick Joseph, was born shortly after in 1958.

Fred was predeceased by Jean, his wife of 56 years, who he tenderly missed every day they were apart. He is survived by his daughter Jackie (Terry), son Fred (Leslie), grandsons Shane and Daniel and granddaughter Emma.

Until recently, Fred lived in Waterloo, ON, retiring from Eaton’s furniture department in 1993. He moved to Port Elgin in 2021 where he enjoyed being closer to his family on the Bruce Peninsula.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Southbridge Long-term Care for the compassion and support they have shown in Fred’s final days. His ever-present smile and good humour will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

At Fred’s request, there will be no funeral. His remains will be interred at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo alongside Jean.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a charity of your choice.
