November 8, 1935 – March 27, 2026

Our sweet mother Joan Buckton passed away peacefully at Southbridge in Owen Sound. She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 71 years George Buckton and her children Pam Prettie and husband George, Cheryl Davenport and husband Bill, and Bev Buckton and wife Shelley as well as her sister Betty Lou Farrow and husband Lorne, sister Doreen Irving, and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After many years of pain she is now at peace and is reunited with her beloved daughter Cathy Sebok. No doubt she is already driving her crazy.

She was an incredibly warm and caring mother and grandmother. She lived for her family and loved to take care of them. Sometimes too much! Her welcome home hugs and kisses were legendary. Sometimes too much! She always had a roast in the oven, potatoes boiling on the stove and muffins and coffee on the counter for anyone who popped by the house or trailer. Her Christmas gift-giving was absolutely over the top as was her generosity. Half of the mail was from charities asking for more money.

‘Joanie’ was also a crazy person. She loved to laugh and make fun of herself and others. At any given moment she would make a funny face, do a silly dance or sing a goofy song – a trait she passed on to many of her children and grandchildren.

Many thanks to the incredibly kind and patient staff at Mapleview and Southbridge who made her final years comfortable.

Her later years diminished her light but didn’t extinguish it. Funny, goofy, silly, sweet, loving Joan was always in there and came out a little bit every day. That’s who we love and remember.

The family will be holding a private service at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services, greybrucecremation.com.

Condolences for Joan Buckton
