June 19, 1961 – June 8, 2026

Kevin left this world unexpectedly, hopefully finding the peace that life rarely offered him.

He lived independently and often at a distance, thinking far ahead of those around him. He loved in ways that were subtle but loyal, protective in the ways he knew how. Though he could be difficult to get close to, his love for his children ran deep, even when relationships were strained or complicated.

He faced lifelong mental health challenges and carried wounds shaped by both nature and nurture. He survived more than most ever knew, and he always fought his way back up. In his prime, he was a professional arm wrestler and he never let anyone forget it. He had a brilliant mind, a talent for writing, and a fierce pride in relying only on himself.

Kevin is survived by his two daughters, Shaylene and Joy, and by his four grandchildren: Ryder, Trinity, Jade, and Liam. He was predeceased by his mother, Edith Laurie Horsburgh, and by the father he never had the chance to know.

Our relationship was complicated and uniquely our own, but I’m grateful for the time we did have. I met him later in life, and in that short window I began to understand the parts of myself that I came by honestly; the temper I’ve worked hard to soften, and hopefully the sharp mind he carried with him everywhere he went. He was funny and witty, protective and stubborn, sometimes arrogant, always entirely himself.

I’ll hold onto the bits of wisdom he tried to pass down, the endless stories he told, and the laughs we shared. I didn’t get long with my dad, but I will remember him for his resilience, his wit, and his complexity. Rest easy dad, I hope you found the peace that this world could not offer you. – Your favourite daughter.
