May 17, 1959 – July 1, 2026

Douglas “Doug” Harold King of Tobermory passed peacefully after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was in his 68th year. Douglas is predeceased by his parents Duncan Garnet King, Flora Catherine King, as well as his brothers Bill King, Donald King and his brother-in-law Terry Spiers. Loved (step) son of Shirley Jean King.

Doug’s partner, Noëlle Keeling, will forever hold close the memory of her Darling. Their beloved dog Hazel will miss his steady presence and gentle companionship. Doug’s absence will be profoundly felt by his siblings, brothers and sisters in law: John King (Honey), (Bill King) Marlene, Edward King (Lorie), Anabel Spiers (Terry), (Donald King) Cheryl, Elgin King (Heidi), Gwen Salay (Rick), Robert King (Carla), Richard King, Carol Finlay (Lon), Annette Miller, Patty Stephens (Burke), Jacky King, Cindy Mac Ewan (Steven), Carol Ann Kuuter (John), Barry Olmsted, Grant Olmsted (Patti), Paul Olmsted (Deborah). He will be fondly remembered by aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Doug had a fun-loving, and spontaneous personality. He was a caring brother and comical uncle – the kind who could turn an ordinary moment into a memory worth keeping. Over the years he worked hard in many roles: with the CN Railway, in construction, and finally with Owen Sound Transportation Company Limited as a dock man for the Chi‑Cheemaun.

He found joy in simple things: long walks, quiet fishing days, and the satisfaction of building something with his hands. His carpentry skills were exceptional—his high‑school writing desk, lovingly called “Dad’s desk,” remains a treasured piece of family history. Doug was also an extraordinary cook, known for preparing delicious meals that brought people together. He never turned down a good steak, a funny joke, or a chance to dance at a family wedding. His mischievous grin and trademark eyebrow raise—expressions that said more than words ever could—stayed with him even in his final days.

Doug, you’ve taken your final walk home. May peace and rest surround you now!

“Those that leave us, don’t walk away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear”. Always and forever!”

Thank you to the staff and students at Lion’s Head Hospital for taking good care of Doug! The kindness and consideration you showed him is greatly appreciated.
