A Man with an Intense Love for his family and his friends; A Man of Integrity and Honour will be Celebrated on Saturday August 15, 2026 at the Owen Sound Legion from 1- 4 p.m. ; service will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m.
Mike’s life embodied his priority of a Deep Caring and Genuine Love for his wife, Alison, his children Taylor and Kendra and grandchildren Austin and Lorcan, his parents Irene and Lawrence (deceased), siblings Lawrence (Carla), Bob (Carolyn), Ken (Reta) and Susanne Gunn (Brad) and So So many friends!
Joy was always found in the simple things in Mike’s life; in the early years, canal visits to his dad on the ship, farm days of hard work, growing up with 4 amazing siblings; 3 brothers and 1 sister; family road trips in the old station wagon, his parents setting the tone for hard work, a kitchen of aunts and uncles, weekend parties with friends, Bill Murphy and Brad Morley; two memorable teachers from OSCVI and the Unforgettable Charlie!
In 1983 Mike met Alison, the Love of his Life and they married in 1987. Time spent together was their greatest gift! A few years later when children arrived, family time together was Paramount.
Mike LOVED playing guitar at home and family events, also gigging with friends on a Friday night in Rob’s garage; coaching/mentoring Taylor in soccer while loving the game and being together; watching Kendra figure skate then mastering the Fairley heirloom bagpipes; spending days off with his beloved In-laws, Barb and Bob and righting the world issues; transporting patients for 40 years at the Owen Sound Hospital; a magical Scotland trip; anticipating “bowling night” every Tuesday evening (gaming) with his Brothers (both American and Canadian) which spawned a 26 year friendship; escaping Canadian winters for a week in the sunny south, mostly his beloved Cuba; Sunday Fun days, Amazing and Unforgettable West Virginia trips; summer days around our family pool and making people Laugh! Saturday dinners with Special friends; Stewart visits in Kincardine; Party People memories; Brother time; Family reunions; Pool time at the Gunn’s; road trips; golfing; Northbound trips to spoil grandchildren. UFC fight nights; quiet weekend mornings of coffee in bed with Alison, daily walks with Kevah collecting thoughts for the day; Cousin time in Dunnville, Uncle time in St. Catharines, and our newest laser business encouraging personalized creativity. The list is Endless!
He LOVED podcasting: his YouTube channel, The Surge Affect started as a motivational interlude after “retirement” then grew to include political facts and opinions seeded mainly in Canadian events including his Passion for Freedom.
FREEDOM-his moral compass and razor sharp focus of Family and veterans who fought for our Freedoms mattered immensely to him!
His podcast was created as his legacy for his grandchildren especially, so they would always know who he was and what he stood for.
In the last 6 years when grandbabies began arriving, his focus shifted sharply; adoring Austin and Lorcan at Every Single Opportunity Possible! Being their Grandad was the single Greatest Honour bestowed on him after age 55.
One of Mike’s Greatest Attributes was making people laugh and feel comfortable, his heart was pure, genuine, kind, caring and SO Loving, for which he will always be remembered.
His Celebration will be unassuming and casual, just like Mike; bringing joy with memories shared, providing laughter, smiles and the healing needed to navigate the unknown road forward without him beside us.
