Irma Yourth
Irma Yourth (nee Foy), in her 94th year, passed peacefully on Tuesday September 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with a brief illness. Irma was born in 1932 in the Ottawa Valley. She grew up on the family farm in Tramore, on Round Lake, Ontario.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, John “Jack” Yourth. Together they created a beautiful family. She is survived by their four children, Don Yourth, Cathy Yourth (Tom Fenton), Terry Yourth (Brenda) and Ron Yourth (Trudy). They were blessed with five grandchildren who she loved dearly, Jenn Major (Gino), Tyler Yourth (Stacey), Madison (Yourth) Illman (Devin), Jade Yourth (Adam) and Connor Yourth (Lindsay). The blessings continued with their great-grandchildren who absolutely lit up Irma’s life, Michael, Jessie Isabella, Sonya, Athena, Huck, Lily, Rylynn, Nixon, Miller and Charlee. She was so incredibly proud of her family. She is also survived by her nephew Peter Raycroft, her brothers Kenneth Foy and Ross Foy and sister Doris Griffith as well as many more beloved nieces and nephews. Irma is predeceased by her parents Peter Henry and Ethel Foy (nee Shellhorn) as well as her brothers Howard, Jay and Murray Foy and sister Marjorie Griffith as well as many cherished brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Irma was a natural born caregiver. Working at the Yourth’s family Lodge (Twin Maple Lodge) in Golden Lake while raising her children. They moved to Port Elgin for a few years in the 1960’s and then again permanently in the 1970’s, where she became known to many as “Mother Yourth”. She was an avid sports fan; she loved her baseball and the Maple Leafs. Was known to stomp her feet when a call didn’t go her way. She often reminisced about sneaking after bedtime to listen to the hockey game on her father’s radio as a child. Irma’s love, warmth and pure strength was unmatched. She was a role model to all those who loved her and were lucky enough to be loved by her in return. She was an absolute blessing, and her many stories will live on as her legacy to our family.
We would like to thank Melissa, Irma’s PSW, who became a very special friend and support to our family. We would also like to thank all the Nurses, Doctors, and support staff at Saugeen Memorial hospital in Southampton who took such amazing care of our special “little lady”.
A small family gathering will be held to celebrate Irma’s life but the best way to honour Irma is to care about others, smile while holding a door for a stranger, and just genuinely be kind. This is how she lived.
