John Wayne Stangler

May 31, 1949 – October 10, 2026

It is with extremely broken hearts that we announce the passing of John at the age of 77, on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at the Hanover and District Hospital with his devoted family by his side.

John will be forever missed and loved by his wife Janice of 47 years.  Hands down the best dad to Ashley (Wally) Topaczewski.  The proudest moment of John’s life was being promoted to grandpa to his little “grasshopper” Keera.  John will also be missed by his nieces and nephews and their families.  As well as his lifelong best friends Bev and Dave and their families that have become family over the years.

John is predeceased by his parents Edward and Ruby Stangler, his stepfather Benny Benninger, his mother-in-law Jenny Grein and step father-in-law Ruben Grein, as well as his siblings Patricia, Gary and his wife Shirley, Allan and Jeanette.

Words cannot truly express the pain of saying goodbye to someone who has meant so much to us all.  John’s smile and laughter will forever hold a special place in our hearts.  Although John was a quiet man and liked to keep things simple in his world he loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends.  Whether it was listening to conversations with dinner nights with friends.  John and Janice would often find their weekends booked with helping Ashley and Wally with construction projects.  But John started to have more coffee break times when Keera was born and would often wonder off with her to do their own thing usually found at the park on the swing having a drumstick together.

John was an anchor as a husband, a rock as a father and hero as a grandpa.  We will miss him dearly each and everyday.

Johns’ family would like to thank Dr. Heerma and Dr. White, for the care over the years.  A very special thank you to Dr. Lassaline and his nurses Danielle, Abby and Mackenzie for your kindness, compassion and care that you showed John and his family during this time.
