Ronald Schamerhorn
April 21, 1926 to October 31, 2017
Ron Schamerhorn, aged 91, went Home to be with his beloved wife Dorothy on Tuesday October 31, 2017. He had spent the last few months at K-Wing, Veterans Long Term Care at Sunnybrook in Toronto. The wonderful staff took excellent care of his every need, giving him the best quality of life that they could. While serving with the Canadian Army during World War II, he corresponded with a pen pal from Owen Sound, Amelia Dorothy Charlton. After the war, they met, fell in love, married and settled in Belleville. Ron worked for the Canadian National Railway and then as a Custodial Supervisor for the Hastings County District School Board. Ron and Dorothy were very involved in the community – The Royal Canadian Legion, The Ontario Provincial Elections, The Boy Scouts of Canada, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, The United Church and by fostering children. Left to carry on are son, Joe Schamerhorn (Linda), daughter Patricia Galbraith, Maureen McCarrell (Bruce Meecham), son Ron Schamerhorn Jr., son Gerald Schamerhorn (MaryAnne); grandchildren Joe Schamerhorn Jr. (Linda), Ben Schamerhorn (Courtney), Jolyn Robertson (Rob), AJ, Hope Long (Jimmie), Larry McCarrell (Ashley Aiken), Sharlleen McCarrell; great grandchildren Alyssa Schamerhorn, Tavian Palacios, Brady Fenn, Colin Schamerhorn, Tim Schamerhorn, Cadence Robertson, Alexander Robertson, Madison Long and Braydon Long. Lovingly remembered by brother Rev. Edward Schamerhorn (Marilyn) (retired), sisters-in-law Doreen Schamerhorn and Edith Schamerhorn and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Joseph Henry Schamerhorn and Winnifred Edwards, brothers Ted (Pat), Harry and Bob Schamerhorn. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, 412 River Road, Corbyville on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 p.m. – light refreshments to follow at Signal Brewing Company, 87 River Road, Corbyville.
