Janet (Jan) Hooey-Parker
Janet Alvina Hooey-Parker (nee Fairbairn) of Owen Sound passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital in her 77th year. Jan was a long-time member of the United Church Womens’ Auxiliary (UCW) in Hepworth. She was an avid gardener, decorator extraordinaire and enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting for her family. A fabulous cook, Jan loved to host family and friends. She looked forward to yearly visits to West Virginia with Ken and vacationing with family at Otter Lake, QC. She liked to walk Sauble Beach and revel in the glorious sunsets. She was a cheerleader for various sports played by her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Ken (Beano) Parker, daughter, Rhonda of Toronto, sons, David (Barb) of Ottawa and Mark (Kim) of Clavering, grandchildren, Marley, Kieran, Tristan, Trent (Kate), Taylor, and Terran and two great granddaughters, Macey and Charley. Jan’s grandchildren meant the world to her. Cherished sister of Richard (Sharon) of Balaclava, Tom of Owen Sound, Dan (Annie) of the UK and sister-in-law Betty of Webbwood. Predeceased by her parents, Jean and Howard and late husband, Lloyd (Doug) Hooey, brothers Roger (in infancy) and Howard. Fondly remembered by Jan’s stepdaughters and families, Jill (Jim), Jenny (Nick) and Beverlee (Matt), all of Owen Sound. Independent and strong-willed, Jan left this world like she lived – with grace, humility and dignity. As per Jan’s wishes, cremation will be taking place and a service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Chapman House – Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce, Owen Sound Regional Hospital and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations will be generously accepted to Chapman House, the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation – Research.
