Larry Lajoie
It is with profound sadness that the family of Larry Lajoie announce his sudden passing on May 3, 2024 surrounded by his family. Larry was born in Windsor, Ontario and was the son of the late Rene and Irene Lajoie. Larry will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy (Drake) and his two daughters, Danielle Paquette (Kevin) and Stephanie Leslie. He is forever in the hearts of his grandchildren Camryn, Owen, Brooke and Lauren who are left with wonderful memories of their “Poppy”. He also leaves behind three brothers; Fred (Marg), Gerry, Bob (Dawna) and one sister, Margaret Campeau (Andre-2013).
Larry could build or fix just about anything using skills he learned from his father starting at a young age. He selflessly offered his knowledge to anyone needing his help. He spent his time renovating his family’s homes and using his passion for gardening, he fed his family and created flower gardens for the enjoyment of others.
Larry’s entire working career was with the Catholic School Board in Windsor. He began at the Windsor Separate School Board in building maintenance, and finalized his career with what is now the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board as Foreman.
Larry and Nancy then retired to the Bruce Peninsula where again, his love of gardening and passion for building continued to shine through at their property on Lake Huron. The transformations Larry made to their cottage to make it their forever home kept him busy, satisfied and full of pride.
Once Larry had some time to relax, he began wood carving and enjoyed gifting his work, much to the delight of others. Larry was also a member of the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to both the emergency department staff of the Brightshores Health System – Lion’s Head Hospital and the ICU staff of the Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound Hospital for their exemplary care provided to Larry in his final days. Donations can be made to the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary at LHHA, 22 Moore St, Lion’s Head, ON, N0H 2W0 or to the www.brightshoresfoundation.ca/icu in his memory.
There will be a celebration of life for Larry in both the Bruce Peninsula and Windsor at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
