Dorothy Hickson

Dorothy Mary Hickson (Stringer) passed away peacefully at Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound on Sunday, June 2, 2024. The loving wife of the late Robert Roy Hickson, she is survived by daughter, Audrey Lloyd, sons John Hickson (Caroline) and David Hickson (Judy). Loved as Nanny to seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one brother, Jim Stringer in England and brother-in-law Wesley Hickson of Lucan. Predeceased by her husband Roy (July 22, 2019) and five brothers.

Dorothy was born in Runcorn, England on April 22, 1931, and wore many titles throughout her life: Doll, Dot, the Eccles Cake Lady, Nanny, Mum and Love. For many years she could be found bustling about the kitchen, creating cakes, pastries, meals, caring for everyone all the while savouring the beautiful views of Georgian Bay out her kitchen window. Her humour, sharp witt and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.

She heard a voice call from beyond the veil, “Come Love, let’s dance” and she did.

The family would like to thank the staff at Summit Place Lodge, Southbridge Nursing Home and the Owen Sound Hospital for their wonderful care.

Private family service and interment at Leith Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
