Jack Meldrum
John (Jack) Meldrum of Port Elgin passed away peacefully September 11, 2024 at the Saugeen Memorial Hospital in his 89th year.
Jack was born on July 8, 1936 to Alexander and Rose (Watson) Meldrum in Stratford, Ontario.
Jack did his electrical apprenticeship with CNR in Stratford and worked in Newfoundland and across Ontario as an electrician, retiring from Budd Canada after 30 years with the company. He was proud of his service with the Perth Regiment and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in 1961. Jack spent many years volunteering with various organizations including the Plattsville Board of Trade, the New Dundee Optimist Club and the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Jack was an avid gardener and was the proprietor of Meldrum’s Melons selling roadside produce during the 1980’s. He also spent many enjoyable hours fishing off of the Port Elgin harbour during the summers.
Jack was married to the love of his life Sharron for 57 wonderful years. He was the incredibly proud father of Jenn (Matt) Horndl and Jackie (Stephen) Dwyer and adored his four grandchildren Pheebie, Cooper, Sydney and Gertie. Jack is survived by his siblings David (Lynda) Meldrum of Stratford and Janet (Stephen) Cunningham of Kincardine and his lifelong friend and cousin James (Doris) Meldrum of Kincardine.
The family would like to thank the extremely caring staff on the 2nd floor of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital who treated Jack like family during his time there.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 1–3 p.m. at the Lakeshore Recreation Lounge, 1177 Goderich Street, Port Elgin.
