Ruth Dover

Ruth Gertrude Dover passed away peacefully on Thursday February 6, 2025 at Gateway Haven in Wiarton in her 98th year. Beloved mother of Doris Waite (nee Cocomile) (Al) of Kemble, grandmother of Eric and Ryan (Erynn) of Kemble and great grandmother of Hunter.
Ruth was born in Toronto on December 10, 1927 at 315 Concord Avenue. Her mom, Doris Dover (nee Harris) passed away only 10 days following Ruth’s birth from pneumonia. Her father, Francis Dover, was unable to care for a newborn baby so Ruth was raised by her Grandmother (Gertrude Harris) and her aunt Hilda Stanton (nee Harris).
Ruth met and dated Samuel Cocomile and they were married on July 10, 1948. Ruth worked at General Valve (a branch of General Electric) as a supervisor in the light bulb manufacturing department. She was a gifted seamstress and made many “mother and daughter” outfits which were quite popular in the late 1950’s.
Following her divorce in 1972, she became a successful real estate agent and worked on the east side of Toronto in Agincourt. She loved to travel and had opportunities to go on several cruises in the Caribbean.
Ruth had a love of ballroom dancing and dated Reg for several years. They would go dancing every weekend and on occasion, would participate in Karaoke singing. She loved to dress up, especially in Roaring 20s outfits. She and Reg won many contests of “Best Dressed Couple” at several events.
Ruth developed a love of making jewellery and sold many sets of necklaces and matching earrings at local markets and bazaars. She lived in Newmarket until her stroke in 2017 when she was prevented from having her own apartment. She moved to Kemble to live with her daughter and did so until 2021. From there she lived at Gateway Haven. The nurses and PSWs as well as the housekeeping and maintenance staff were so wonderful and caring even when a resident was not being cooperative!
Ruth was cogent up to her passing, always asking how old she was and not believing her real age! She will be missed by all who knew her.
Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
