Donald Bridge
Donald Wesley Bridge passed peacefully, shortly after his 85th birthday, on January 16, 2026 at Brightshores Hospital in Owen Sound, Ontario.
Born on January 7, 1941, in Lion’s Head on the Bruce Peninsula. Don was the son of Wesley Herbert Bridge and Thelma Gladys Bridge (nee Krumholtz). The Bruce Peninsula was always home to him and remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Don began working at the age of 15 with Upper Lakes and St. Lawrence Transportation Company, later known as Upper Lakes Shipping Ltd., where he worked from 1956 to 1961. He later built a career as a heavy equipment operator, including many years with CN Rail from 1978 to 1989. He also took part in a brief business venture with Don Bridge Trucking.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Don found great enjoyment in the outdoors. He was known for his love of laughter and his ability to make others laugh, a quality cherished by family and friends.
Don lived in Providence Bay before returning to the Bruce Peninsula and settling in Wiarton, where he could be closer to his mother and be home once again.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Penny, Paul (Mother Mary-Lou), Barry (Debbie), and Terri (Todd) (Mother Sheila); his grandchildren, Crystal, Nicholas, Alex, and Deana; and his siblings Doreen (Ross predeceased), Wayne (predeceased, survived by Trish), June (Gary), Jim (Sharon), Jean (Ron), and his dog Buddy, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kelso Pines Retirement Centre for their care and support in Don’s later years, and to the 6th floor staff at Owen Sound Hospital for their compassion and dedication following his fall in October.
Don will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and the warmth and laughter he brought into the lives of those who knew him.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.
