Gerry Galbraith
Gerald Peter Galbraith passed away on Friday May 22, 2026 at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound.
Gerry was born on September 16, 1955 and spent most of his life on the family farm on the 4th of Arran. He worked with his parents on their mixed farm of beef cattle, pigs and lots of poultry. His sister Lynda left the farm after marrying Allyn Johnston in 1982. He took over the farm after his father, Peter passed away. Within a few years of his mother, Birdie’s passing, Gerry sold the farm and moved to Port Elgin where he lived the remainder of his years.
Gerry dabbled in real estate for awhile, seed sales, firewood sales and bartending before entering the construction trade. He worked for various construction companies throughout the area. He becomes a union member of LiUNA, working on Wind Tower construction sites and in his last few working years finally settling at Bruce Power site.
Gerry enjoyed listening to and playing country music. He liked to join in music jams around the area with fellow musicians. He accumulated quite a collection of guitars and related musical equipment to support his interest.
Gerry liked to re-tell stories of his road trip when he drove to Peace River District of Alberta, stopping on the way to visit some of his Mom’s Saskatchewan relatives. While out west he also saw the Rockies at Hinton, Alberta and even drove north to Yellowknife. He commented about this location being so different to his previous vacation in Cuba.
Gerry’s retirement years were quieter, and he enjoyed more local backroad driving and sightseeing. He was impressed with the modern changes in the agriculture farming world and would often smile as he reminisced of the years he spent operating a wheelbarrow on the farm. Gerry always remarked at the way the neighbours of the 4th of Arran farms were being so well managed and taken care of.
Gerry was predeceased by his father Peter Galbraith and mother ‘Birdie’ Jessie Galbraith (Playford), his sister Lynda Johnston and his brother-in-law Allyn Johnston.
Gerry will be missed by his friends Steve and Dianne Hills and their family.
