Andrew Cowell

After a long battle with Diffuse Systemic Sclerosis, Andrew Joseph Cowell passed away in Lion’s Head Hospital on June 15, 2026 at 49 years old. He is at peace now and no longer in pain. He was the beloved father of Kinsley Cowell of Brantford and cherished son of Daryl and Judy Cowell of Tobermory, Ontario.

Andrew was, in his working life, an arborist for Burlington and Oakville. He loved trees, nature and bugs (entomology). It was not unusual to find jars filled with fluid and huge bugs in our house.  In 2015 he was involved in a project to obtain cuttings and acorns from Oak trees that had been brought from Vimy Ridge over to Canada (Toronto area) as acorns by Leslie Miller. Mr. Miller had fought at Vimy Ridge in WW1. The project goal was to supply France with some “original” real Vimy Oaks for France’s November 11, 2018, 100th anniversary, of the end of WW1. Andrew also loved hockey (played AAA rep hockey as a goalie), baseball and photography. He moved up to Tobermory 4 years ago.

It was his request for no funeral services. The family wishes to express our gratitude to Dr. George Harpur, Dr. Claire Bodkin and the Lion’s Head Hospital staff.
